Narrative

Pastor Jim continued with Part 2 of his message about the first trumpet of Revelation 8 and explained that the Bible makes mention of trumpets in many places throughout the Old and New Testaments, usually as the means by which God says something or delivers a message. He went over the verses that describe the destruction and hardship that take place after the sounding of the trumpet, things like the burning of one-third of the earth’s trees and destruction by fire of all grass, vegetation, pastures and gardens. He noted, in response to a question from Nolan, that the Scriptures mention the term “one-third” 182 times, typically in relation to a judgment of God.

In posing the question of whether or not any event in history seemed to fulfill even a small aspect of this prophecy of the first trumpet, he recalled the Chicago fire of October 8, 1871 that caused great destruction in Illinois. Although many history books contain references to this fire, few historical documents mention that at least 12 other fires, in a four state area, took place the very same night. One of those disasters, destroyed the entire city of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, killing 1200 residents. The documentary entitled “Fire From the Sky,” includes interviews with researchers who believe the cause of the string of fires involved a falling comet or asteroid. Survivors of the Peshtigo fire gave reports of seeing balls of fire descending from above before the fire broke out.

Pastor Jim said Revelation 8:7 foretells such fireballs coming out of the sky in what John described as “hail and fire mingled with blood.” He noted that the Greek word for blood, “haima” actually refers to bloodshed and explained that the verse means the objects falling from the sky would cause the shedding of blood. “This first trumpet is going to bring a major calamity on earth,” he said.

Lori appeared, in a surprise visit to the set, just in from her trip to the Washington, D.C. area to visit relatives. She told of the enjoyable time she had but said her mind stayed focused on the reality that the millions of people in that region of the country have done little to prepare for the day of tribulation, if they even recognize the serious time in which they live. The subject of rising gas prices came up and she wondered aloud how the people who commute into D.C. everyday, from surrounding states, will be able to afford to fill their tanks when gas prices approach $5.00 per gallon.

As world conditions continue to deteriorate, with tensions in the Mideast and continued mocking of God’s name in America, Pastor Jim reminded and urged viewers to prepare themselves for what’s ahead. He shared that he hopes to purchase another farm near Morningside and that the ministry already owns garden lands full of black, rich dirt. He believes every church should own a farm to grow food and also to teach the younger generation the skills required to plant, tend and produce things that will give them sustenance. He then added that Christians cannot feed the hungry, as commanded in the Bible, if they lack food themselves.
