Narrative

Some Christians refuse to study the book of Revelation because it scares or confuses them, Pastor Jim said, prior to giving a few tips on how to better understand the symbolism and meaning of the Bible’s last book. He suggested picturing the Apostle John receiving God’s message in a vision that may have appeared to him as though on an IMAX sized screen. John was an elderly man at the time he received the revelation and used familiar terminology and descriptions to explain the things shown to him.

This could explain why, in Revelation 8:7, he wrote of fiery hail falling from the sky at the sound of the first trumpet. Pastor Jim said that most likely refers to asteroids or meteors which people in John’s day had no knowledge of. In verse 8, the apostle wrote of the casting of a fiery mountain into the sea, upon the blowing of the third horn. In a previous program, the Pastor described how this likely refers to a powerful earthquake, strong enough to move a volcano out of its place into a nearby body of water and causing an eruption that could possibly produce a tsunami.

Pastor Jim issued a reminder that the disasters represented by the four horsemen of the apocalypse already plague the earth and people all over the world, one of the horsemen signifying widespread disease and death. He called attention to a recent news story about a bird flu outbreak in Taiwan and said scientists believe the day approaches when the only sure way to prevent catching this flu is by staying inside. In another news story, a mystery virus in the United Kingdom killed or caused birth defects in thousands of lambs there. The report stood out to Pastor Jim because of the special place lambs have in Jesus’ sight, as evidenced when he told his disciples to feed his sheep and his lambs. In yet another sign of the times, he made mention of the tornado outbreak that started at the end of February and affected 14 states, from Nebraska to Georgia. There was a time, he recalled, when the U.S. only saw hundreds of these types of storms per year, now thousands occur annually. This goes along, he said, with Jesus’ prophecy in Matthew 24 that multiple storms, earthquakes and calamities in many places will precede his return.

Pastor Jim went on to say the mission of his show centers around getting people ready to survive the days ahead. Morningside campground boundaries continue to expand and he said those who suffer calamities at home and have to leave for some time, can come to the city of refuge located at Morningside, which not only boasts the camping area, but condominiums and an RV park. He announced completion of the bathhouse and said construction has begun on a large Old Mill Inn storage building, a place designed to hold a large inventory of survival preparedness items, including the buckets of food popularly sold on each broadcast. “You will be able to eat when the world’s coming apart,” he said, of those who prepare and set up a food stash.

Every family, he admonished, should have a Plan B in mind and a strategy on how to respond in case of any type of emergency or disaster. Although Revelation foretells many depressing events, Pastor Jim said the book also reveals that the harvest takes place soon after the tribulation. He said that Christians have a mission, as children of light, to win souls and work as harvesters for God.
