Quotes
“We have taken God away. We have put Bible reading and prayer [as] illegal in our schools. We have rebellion. We have lawlessness.” -Pastor Jim Bakker
“Our ministry has been trying our best to get people to be ready for these days that we’re living in.” – Pastor Jim Bakker
Narrative
Pastor Jim began by giving the Biblical description of what the world, and people in it, would be like in the last days. A time when a spirit of rebelliousness and lawlessness would reign and the hearts of many would turn cold. He then cited a news story that reported that hard partying young people held the highest death rates of all high income countries. Kevin Shorey noted that the popular songs of this generation speak clearly and boldly about drinking, using drugs and even activities like stripping. Pastor Jim said the time is now when people love pleasure more than they love God, another scriptural sign of the end. He added, however, that the signs also point to the nearness of the redemption of the righteous.
He is skeptical that the people of the nation will turn to God and repent without some major catastrophe occurring. He revealed that God has shown him that an atomic bomb is already being built, with parts smuggled into the country by enemies of America. His hope is that a revival will take over the land but his doubts stem from the fact that many in the church have accepted and live by a false doctrine, the gospel of prosperity. He said some church goers are angry at those who preach Revelation because they find the last book of the Bible frightening and would rather hold to a teaching that tells them how rich God wants them to be.
Although he helped invent the “gospel of prosperity,” he now admits his error and said he firmly believes that the “other doctrine” spoken of as having prevalence in the end time, refers to this erroneous teaching that focuses on attainment of riches and wealth. The harlot of Revelation, he continued, symbolizes accumulation and love of material things. He explained that 9/11 destroyed the World Trade Center towers and left people around the world marveling over the destruction of that international symbol of trade and financial matters. In the same way, Rev. 18:17 says people around the world lamented over how a city known for its riches and influence fell in an hour. He encouraged the audience to prepare for the troublesome days that lie ahead for America.
