“If you don’t love, you’re not born again.”- Pastor Jim Bakker
“America needs a resurrection.” – Pastor John Blanchard
Narrative
Pastor Jim and Lori Bakker welcomed Anne Gimenez and her son-in-law John Blanchard, Bishop and Executive Pastor, respectively, of Rock Church International Fellowship in Virginia. The topics of discussion centered around the Gimenez family history and the America For Jesus (AFJ) National Call to Prayer day scheduled for September 28th and 29th. Bishop Gimenez also serves as Chairperson for AFJ and Mr. Blanchard as National Coordinator.
Pastor Jim and the Bishop walked down memory lane and recounted how the energetic woman first appeared on The 700 Club in the 1960s, with her late husband John, who she co-founded Rock Church with in 1968. She also took time to tell the captivating story of how her marriage came about and how God worked to unite a Puerto Rican man and a southern woman from Texas whose family vowed to disown her if she wed. The couple went ahead with their plans, however, after overcoming severe obstacles. They remained married for 40 years, until the death of John Gimenez in 2008.
At that time,Anne took over as Bishop of Rock Church, a post she still holds today at the age of 79. She receives much assistance from her daughter Robin and Mr. Blanchard, whose story of salvation began with him being an atheist before he accepted Christianity and ended up married to the daughter of two great preachers. The Bishop’s book “Born to Preach,” details the calling she received while in her late teens to begin traveling and spreading the gospel far and wide.
Pastor Jim then asked Mrs. Gimenez to give a word to the Master’s Media students. She told them to develop an ear to hear God. She told the story of how, in recent years, after delivering a message, a woman in the audience told her, “I want what you’ve got.” The Bishop told Pastor Jim and the audience that her response to the woman was based on the Biblical parable of the 10 virgins who were encouraged to buy oil for their lamps so they would be prepared when the bridegroom came. Each had to buy their own oil and could not rely on oil from someone else. In the same way, she told the woman she could pray for her and witness to her, but could not give her what she had, anymore than the five wise virgins could give the oil they labored and suffered to obtain away to the five foolish virgins.
In closing, the Bishop and Mr. Blanchard gave more details about the National Day of Prayer to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this fall. Mr. Blanchard outlined the need for resurrection, awakening and a healing in the land and said the youth will be the focus of activities on Friday, September 28th, while the full day of prayer is scheduled the following day.
