Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
When you were a child did you ever fly a kite? There is something so magical about the bright colors dancing in a brilliant blue sky. I have never seen anyone flying a kite that did not have a smile on their face! There is joy holding on to that tiny string and seeing something so beautiful fly!
These are the memories we all have…the satisfaction and happiness when that kite finally gets airborne! We choose to forget the preparation and the frustration that comes before the flight begins. Tangled string, too much wind, not enough wind, broken tails, tree and power lines that tend to stop the joy for a while. You have to make a decision to keep trying. With much patience, you untangle the strings or ask for help, you wait for the wind to be just right or run as fast as you can to create your own; you repair what is broken as best as you can and move to a safer place to play. The most important thing that is required is that you have faith that your kite is going to fly!
Isn’t our walk with Jesus the same? We have tangled lives and pain that blows us over, but He patiently separates the knots and holds us until we are ready. Sometimes there is no strength left within us to move on, so Christ runs with us in His hands until we can feel the wind beneath us. We can be broken and Jesus repairs every tear. There can be danger and temptation all around, yet our Savior will steer us away until we are safe.
Matthew 17:20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
We are the kite. Christ joyfully watches us dance as He holds on to that tiny string of faith that is tied to our hearts. This faith of a mustard seed that can move mountains lets us soar. But the love that God has for us is so strong He won’t ever let us fall to the ground.
Have Faith, have joy and don’t be afraid to fly!
