U.S. Intelligence Agencies Believe Syria Used Chemical Weapons

On the heels of Secretary of State John Kerry saying that Israel had not provided evidence that Syria used chemical weapons against rebels, U.S. intelligence officials admitted they believe with “varying degrees of confidence” that Syria has used chemical weapons.

The terrorists who bombed the Boston Marathon had Times Square as the next target on their list.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters today that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told FBI investigators that he and his brother had “spontaneously” decided to use the rest of their bombs on Times Square after their successful attack on the Boston Marathon. Continue reading

Three British Men Jailed On Terrorism Charges

Three British Muslims have been sentenced to prison for their parts in planning terrorist attacks near the time of the London Olympic Games.

Richard Dart, a Muslim convert, was sentenced to six years. Imran Mahmood received a 9 year, 9 month sentence and Jahangir Alom will spend four and a half years behind bars. All three men pled guilty in March to charges related to their plot. Continue reading

UN Security Council Approves Mali Peacekeeping Force

Over 12,000 UN troops will be stationed in Mali beginning in July after a resolution received unanimous approval from the UN Security Council.

The force will include over 6,000 West African soldiers already serving in Mali. The French, who proposed the resolution, will now leave 1,000 troops in the country to fight al-Qaeda related terrorist groups. France originally said they would be removing all 4,000 troops sent to Mali in January to stop the terrorists from overtaking the Malian government. Continue reading

World Health Organization Weakening Stance On Human-To-Human H7N9 Spread

On the same day that a World Health Organization official announced the H7N9 strain of bird flu is “one of the most lethal”, other statements are indicating the organization is not as sure of their previous view the virus does not transmit between humans.

“The situation remains complex and difficult and evolving,” WHO Assistant Director-General for Health Security Keiji Fukuda said at a pressconference. “When we look at influenza viruses, this is an unusually dangerous virus for humans.” Continue reading

EU Leaders Concerned About Europeans Fighting With Syrian Rebels

The head of anti-terrorism in the European Union is sounding concern regarding the number of Europeans fighting with extremists in Syria.

Gilles de Kerchove estimated the number of Europeans involved directly in the fighting at 500. He showed concern that these people would become radicalized during their time with Islamic rebels and then would pose a threat to Europe upon their return. Continue reading
