After 18 years of court challenges and political wrangling, a law requiring parental notification for abortions by girls 17 and under is going to go into effect. The Illinois Supreme Court rejected an ACLU appeal against the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995 which has already been upheld by a federal court.
“We find that, while a minor clearly has an expectation of privacy in her medical information, which includes the fact of her pregnancy, the intrusion on the minor’s privacy occasioned by the Act is not unreasonable,” Justice Anne Burke wrote for the majority. The Texas House of Representatives passed strict abortion restrictions including a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The bill passed 98-49 but will need a second, final vote from the house before it can head to the State Senate. The bill is the same one that the House had sent to the Senate during a previous special session but was killed by a Democratic Senator’s filibuster and protesters who disrupted the Senate’s session and ability to vote on the bill. Protesters carrying signs that read “Kill the bill! Not the child!” marched through Dublin, Ireland on Saturday to demand the government stop plans to legalize abortions in select cases.

The University of Buffalo decided that a pro-life group having a debate to stand up for the lives of unborn children was so “controversial” that they ordered them to pay for security at their rally. School officials then charged the group more than $150 OVER the student group’s entire Student Association funding after the event.
