A group of Muslim youth attacked and burned a Salvation Army church in Mombasa, Kenya, killing four people.
Police attributed the attack to anger over the shooting of an imam earlier in the week. Muslims are claiming the police are using the attack by the Islamic terrorist group al-Shabab two weeks ago as a basis to harass other Muslims.
The imam and three others were found dead in a car that was riddled with bullet holes. Muslim leaders are claiming local police assassinated the imam. Kenyan police are denying any link to the murder.
An imam who was killed in August 2012 mentored the murdered imam, Sheikh Ibrahim Omar. That imam, Aboud Rogo, was a fundraiser and recruiter for the terrorist group al-Shabab.
Christian leaders in Israel are starting to speak out against a string of attacks on church properties and religious sites.
The latest incident was an attack by vandals on the Protestant Cemetery of Mount Zion. The vandals destroyed graves belonging to major protestant figures of the 19th and 20th centuries. One of the graves belonged to a German diplomat who founded an orphanage in the city.
“We are striving so hard to promote dignity and respect among the living. And here we have our dead people … vandalized,” said the Very Rev. Hosam Naoum, caretaker of the Protestant cemetery. “No human would agree with this.”
Other attacks in the last year included an attack on a monastery in Latrun outside Jerusalem where “Jesus is a monkey” was spray painted on the century old building. Over the last three years, 17 Christian sites in the Holy Land have been reported vandalized.
U.S. military officials have banned at least 50 Catholic chaplains from holding services on military bases this weekend because of the government shutdown.
Fox News’ Todd Starnes quoted the Archbishop of the Archdiocese for Military Services as saying in most cases Sunday mass won’t be offered to Catholic troops.
“If someone has a baptism scheduled, it won’t be celebrated,” Archbishop Timothy Broglio told Starnes.
The chaplains have been banned from volunteering to hold services and one was threatened with military discipline if he were to conduct a service. A priest at Joint Base Langley-Eustis was banned from officiating the wedding of a couple he had been counseling.
“In American history there has been no administration more anti-Catholic than the Obama administration,” Bill Donohue of the Catholic League said. “For them to deny Catholic men and women the opportunity of the sacraments and to deal with their prayerful vocations is really a stunning statement.”
A family of Christians was thrown out of the southern Egyptian city of Zakaria because they could not pay a fine inflicted on them by Muslims in the area.
Initially, a Muslim family accused the Christian husband of the family of having an illegal relationship with a Muslim woman. Then Muslims attacked and looted Kirollos Sabet’s furniture and appliance store.
Local officials finally arrived and stopped the attack but Muslims continued to threaten Christians and throw rocks at the homes of Christians. The local officials then “fined” both the families involved in the alleged incident but since the Muslim woman’s family was too poor to pay they added her total to the Christian’s fine.
When the Sabet family complained about being forced to pay the fine of the Muslim, the entire family was forced out of the city. Muslim extremists in the city were calling for more violence against Christians in the region.
