Record Australian Heat Feeds Bushfires
Sydney, Australia set another temperature record on Friday reaching 115 degrees as a massive heat wave continues to feed bushfires across the continent. Some regions outside the city reported temperatures higher than Sydney.
One man died from being caught by a bushfire fed by dried vegetation due to the drought and heat wave. State police found the man’s body inside his burned out vehicle. They speculate he was trying to flee the flames. Continue reading
Nation’s Landmarks Feel Temperature Extremes
Some of America’s most well-known landmarks experienced rare and record-breaking temperature extremes before on Sunday as a massive temperature contrast set up across the U.S.
Bitterly cold temperatures gripped the West. In Arizona, the Grand Canyon airport observed a low of 20 degrees below zero Sunday morning.
That appeared to tie the all-time record low for the Grand Canyon since records began in 1976, previously set Dec. 23, 1990 and on the first two days of February 1985. However, the National Weather Service has not confirmed this record.
On the opposite side of the country, record warmth was pervasive, including at the place that bills itself as “Home of the World’s Worst Weather,” Mount Washington, N.H.

U.S. Records Hottest Year Ever in 2012
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stated that 2012 was a full degree warmer than the previous yearly average and that it was 3.2 degrees warmer than the average for the entire 20th century.
Scientists claim the record is due to global warming and natural weather variation. Continue reading
Northern India Cold Wave Kills 175
On the heels of almost 100 dying from a cold wave in the Ukraine, a cold wave in India has killed at least 175 people with hundreds more in danger.
The Hindu reported that temperatures in the capital of New Delhi were as much as 7 degrees Celsius below average (approx. 15 degrees Fahrenheit.) Continue reading
Storms In Midwest Invoke Memories Of Dust Bowl
Over the last year, residents of the Midwest have been reporting weather conditions that remind historians of the “Dust Bowl.”
Close to 62% of the United States remain in drought conditions and scientists are reporting that parts of Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico are in “exceptional drought conditions.” Continue reading
Duel Storms Kill 15 Christmas Day
A duel set of storms, one a blizzard that hit the northern part of the US, and the other an outbreak of tornadoes in the south, has left at least 15 people dead and dozens more homeless or injured.
