The United Nations says that the Ebola crisis in west Africa could end up bringing a widespread famine that leads to more deaths than the virus will end up causing at the end of the outbreak.
The announcement came on the eve of the UN’s World Food Day Thursday.
“The world is mobilizing and we need to reach the smallest villages in the most remote locations,” Denise Brown, the U.N. World Food Program’s regional director for West Africa, said in a statement Wednesday. “Indications are that things will get worse before they improve. How much worse depends on us all.”
The World Food Program says that over 1.3 million people in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are lacking enough food. The organization says they don’t have enough supplies for everyone and currently are able to reach up to 700,000 people a month.
The WFP is providing food to families of Ebola victims.
“We are assessing how families are coping as the virus keeps spreading,” an organization spokesman said. “We expect to have a better understanding of the impact of the Ebola outbreak on food availability and farming activities by the end of October.”
Lori and I want so much for people to be ready for anything and I know in my heart that something big is about to happen!
I’m not the only one feeling this way! When Pastor John Hagee was here with us recently he said, “I think the message that God is sending to His children is that the King is coming, get ready, get ready, get ready, the Son of God is about to appear in the clouds of Heaven and this world is soon to be over.” Both, Pastor Hagee and Pastor Mark Biltz are warning of major prophetic events surrounding the appearance of the ‘blood moons’ in conjunction with Israel’s Holy Feast Days.
The signs in the heavens couldn’t be any more apparent, marking major prophetic events which will become clear as we wait on the Lord. The message right now is to get ready! If the church gets ready now, we can minister with compassion to many more people – and perhaps lead them to Jesus. Continue reading →
Lori has always been a preparer. She always has something in her purse to treat a burn, etc. Now when she married me, she got to go full tilt with preparing! You may laugh at Lori, but when it’s falling apart, you’ll wish for someone like her around you.
My Grandma Irwin was a preparer too. She always had food – she always had something tucked away. But if you’re going to tuck money away under your mattress or something, make sure it’s in dollar bills because they won’t be making change someday soon. If you have to buy a loaf of bread, you don’t want to have to give a hundred dollar bill.
This is in the first part of what’s coming. So, if you have dollar bills, you can go buy a loaf of bread and they’ll take whatever you have. You’re going to barter for things in the next state (situation). When the power goes out and the machines don’t work… the atms will not work! Continue reading →
The Church standing together is God’s ark of safety for the Last Days. God has been speaking to me about not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25) and that’s what we’re doing in many different ways throughout this ministry.
There are literally millions of people that come together every day to watch our daily broadcast, watch live streaming on our website and stay connected through our social media! This is what you are a part of – and it’s bigger than any single one of us alone. Together we are stronger and safer because God designed it that way!
This has been one of the most brutal winters in history. Records have been broken daily! Not only have we had cold, cold, cold weather, but we have also seen extreme drought, like in California. This drought has caused our fruit and vegetable prices to skyrocket because much of what we see on our produce shelves is grown in the state of California!
It’s shocking to see a single piece of fruit costing two or three dollars! It’s not hard to see why the Revelation says that a loaf of bread will cost a whole day’s wages in the End Times (Revelation 6:6)! Food will never be any cheaper than it is right now!
As you stay in the Word, you begin to understand more and more about the Times we are living in. Even the Revelation becomes clearer as we learn about each piece. We don’t want you to have just a piece here and a piece there, but we want you to see whole picture!
If we stick together and keep hearing from anointed people like those we are bringing to you on our broadcasts, we will be far more prepared for anything that comes our way.
Always remember that God loves you – He really does! And we love you too!
Thousands of Venezuelan citizens attempted to have an “empty pots march” to the country’s food ministry Saturday in protest of chronic food shortages when military troops forced them to disburse at gunpoint.
The move by the military is the latest effort by the Maduro government to stop public opposition to his government.
Activists said over 5,000 people banged pots and blew horns as they marched toward the capital with banners pointing out massive shortages of flour, milk and toilet paper. In addition to the capital, similar protests were held in five other cities.
“There’s nothing to buy,” one of the marchers told The Guardian newspaper. “You can only buy what the government lets enter the country because everything is imported. There is no beef. There is no chicken.”
The food protests are the latest outcries against the Maduro government, which has allowed 56 percent inflation to remain unchecked and has done little to lower one of the world’s highest murder rates.
Officials with the Maduro government say that no protests are actually started by native Venezuelans, but are rather efforts of the United States, Panama and other nations to undermine the country’s socialist leadership.
The National Farmer’s Union of Great Britain says the country’s wheat harvest could be over 30% smaller than last year due to the extreme weather that has battered the country since last fall.
Flooding, severe rain and snow has caused significant damage to crops. A figure released in April showed that the area planted with winter wheat was already ¼ lower than the previous year. Continue reading →
In the wake of 54 people being killed from Hurricane Sandy, Haiti is now looking at almost 1.5 million people going hungry in 2013 because of the storm’s damage.
The United Nations is reporting that a drought in the spring and summer coupled with the extensive damage to property and equipment caused by successive natural disasters have essentially wiped out farming in large parts of the nation. Continue reading →
“We are entering a new era of rising food prices and spreading hunger. Food supplies are tightening everywhere and land is becoming the most sought-after commodity as the world shifts from an age of food abundance to one of scarcity. The geopolitics of food is fast overshadowing the geopolitics of oil.”
Those chilling words from Lester Brown of the Earth policy research center in Washington come as the United Nations is reporting that grain reserves worldwide have reached such a critical point that extreme weather in the United States or other major food exporting nations next year could cause a major hunger crisis. World food prices rose an average of 1.4% during September according to the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization. The senior economist at the FAO stated that food prices are likely to remain high.
The fear of food shortages due to drought hitting grain crops in the US, Europe and Asia continued after the FAO stated they predict a 2.6% decrease in cereal production. The decrease is smaller than expected due to higher amounts of wheat and rice offsetting the loss of corn crops. Continue reading →
Save The Children has issued a statement saying that drought and continuing conflicts in Somalia threatens the recovery from famine in the country.
The charity group says an “urgent increase” of aid is needed to the region because most families in Somalia are still unable to deal with the effects of the ongoing drought. East Africa had the worst drought in 60 years in 2011 and the drought conditions continue. Attacks by Islamic terrorist groups are also weakening the food supply. Continue reading →
