Tips For Jesus Strikes Again

The men behind the nationwide movement Tips For Jesus have struck again, this time at a restaurant in Philadelphia.

An unidentified group of men have been leaving massive tips for waitresses, bartenders and other lower income workers with an emblem marked Tips For Jesus.  The name of the customer is scratched out so that they cannot be identified.

The mystery men left a $5,000 tip for a waitress and a $2,000 tip for a bartender at Philadelphia’s Rouge restaurant.

“When he wrote down the tip, to be honest with you, it didn’t feel real,” waitress Jess Nguyen told Philly.com.  “I feel like I won the lottery.”

Nguyen said her tip will to go paying for her college classes to earn a teaching degree and the bartender, Sam Trasatti, said she will use the money to help build a personal training business.

The identity of the man behind the Tips for Jesus campaign has been a secret but some media websites are suggesting it is Jack Selby, a former vice president of  the online payment service PayPal.

Louisiana Governor Says Accepting Christ “Most Important Moment”

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal believes the most important moment in his life is the moment he accepted Christ as his Savior.

The governor is scheduled to speak at Liberty University this weekend and released an advanced copy of his speech where he openly and boldly speaks of the importance of Christ in his life.

This is from the text of the governor’s address:

The short story is this, I read the words of Jesus Christ and I realized that they were true. I used to think that I had found God, but I believe it is more accurate to say that He found me. And it happened because people were brave enough to plant seeds of the Gospel in my life.

Many years later, when I became a candidate for political office, in one of my first debates, I got the question– “What is the single most important moment in your life?”

I had just endured countless hours of debate prep sessions with my political consultants and staff. That’s where you sit around and get savagely grilled by people you pay – your political consultants and staffers. I knew exactly what they hoped I would say – they would argue that I should try to appeal to female voters by offering a touching story about when I asked my wife Supriya for her hand in marriage, or about the birth of my first child.  And yes, those were great moments.

But instead, I decided to do something new in politics, I told the audience the truth — that the most significant moment of my life was when I turned it over to Jesus Christ and acknowledged Him as my Savior.

My political consultants then began shifting uncomfortably in their seats…and I have to admit I enjoyed that.

Jindal goes on to talk about how despite what many in the liberal academic community claim about followers of Christ, it is not a faith that is followed by those with a lack of intelligence.  Jindal is a Rhodes scholar.

NBA MVP Credits God With Transformation Of His Life

Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder said that he was only able to reach the levels he’s obtained in his career because of God.

“First off I’d like to thank God for changing my life [and] letting me really realize what life is all about. Basketball is just a platform in order for me to inspire people, and I realize that,” Durant said.

Durant spoke of his childhood growing up in suburbs of Washington, D.C. and that how it felt like they couldn’t get out because of the poverty and struggles faced by a single mother who gave birth to her first child at 18.

He spoke fondly if his mother who instilled a strong belief in God in her children.

“You made us believe, you kept us off the street, you put clothes on our backs, food on the table,” he said. “You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP.”

Arizona Church Sells $1 Million Property For $1

A dying Arizona church made one of their last acts a blessing to keep the gospel moving in their community.

First Southern Baptist Church of Payson, Arizona, sold their church campus to church plant Expedition Church for $1.  The dwindling congregation of the church who had been serving Payson for 51 years could no longer maintain the campus, worth over $1 million dollars.

The church also gave their North Annex to Payson Community Kids, a non-profit group that serves needy children in the community.

“It is a very hard thing when a church closes, but there is great joy in being able to share our legacy with Expedition Church and Payson Community Kids, and to know that the lives, the love, the hard work and the generosity of those who had been part of Payson First Southern Baptist Church will continue to reach people for His Kingdom,” former Payson First Southern Baptist Pastor Rick Hatch wrote on the church’s website.

Expedition Church reported they had been trying to rent space from Payson Southern Baptist and were trying to finalize another offer to rent space when Pastor Hatch called to offer the deal to buy the campus.

“My jaw dropped…We said we would absolutely take it,” Expedition Church’s Lead Pastor Donovan Christian said. “I am not a real mystical guy, but we really felt like God was just blessing us.”

Pastor Provides Compelling Evidence For Witnessing At Abortion Clinics

In a society where Christians are receiving increasing amount of condemnation for publicly standing on their faith, one church is providing compelling evidence for the power of witnessing outside of abortion clinics.

Pastor Jeff Durbin and his witnessing team from Apologia Church in Tempe, Arizona, shared a story at the opening of the 2014 Ignite Conference talking about a couple that they had approached heading into an abortion clinic.  They didn’t yell at the couple but rather calmly presented the gospel and spoke about the value that God places on all lives, including that of the couple’s unborn child.

At the conclusion of the story, a young woman walked on stage with a baby.

It was Tina, the woman who ended up walking away from the abortionist’s table and giving life to the child she was holding in her arms.

“We’re very, very grateful for them saving our baby’s life and opening our eyes,” Tina said.  “They’ve really helped us so much and changed our point of view.  If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have my baby.”

Pastor Durbin said Tina and her son were living testimony of the importance of bringing the Gospel into hard places and not being concerned about what the world thinks about it.

“I have an irrefutable argument about bringing the Gospel to hard places despite all the conflict,” Pastor Durbin said, pointing to Tina as she left the stage.

New Jersey Church’s Stations of the Cross Visit Violent Crime Sites

New Jersey churches are gaining attention from the local community for a different spin the Stations of the Cross.

The churches held their annual Stations of the Cross processional around the city stopping at locations of violent crimes.  The churches said the violent crimes reminded them of the suffering that Christ experienced on the cross.

“We see the connection between brutality in the streets of Jersey City and the brutality that Jesus witnessed against in his own death on the cross,” said Grace Church Rector Rev. Laurie Wurm.  “In His crucifixion He exposed our violence to one another, which includes our silence and therefore complicity with violence. The church is called to witness to another way. We hope this is a first step.”

The pastors involved say it was an opportunity to work together to bring the Gospel into the community in a way that is socially relevant and connects to those who do not know Jesus but live having to deal with the violence every day.

Eight different churches banded together for the outreach.  The local police department provided security and the route they said reached the most violent crimes in the city.

Former Gosnell Abortion Clinic To Be Redeemed

A house of death is turning into a house of life.

The Delaware clinic where convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell performed abortions has been bought by a Christian organization who plans to turn it into an emergency food and support center for the poor.

Lutheran Community Services of Wilmington, Delaware purchased the building that was formerly Atlantic Women’s Medical Services and will transform it into their new headquarters.  In addition to offices for the group, they will provide much needed support to the surrounding community.

“It’s going to be a place of hope and life,” LCS Executive Director Jean Warren told Fox News.

Karmit Gosnell, currently serving life in prison without parole for killing babies born alive in his clinics, would begin abortion procedures at the Delaware clinic for late-term abortions.  As the late-term procedure was illegal in Delaware, he would then transport the women to his Philadelphia clinic where he would finish killing the babies.

Pro-life groups throughout the state praised the purchase of the clinic and its upcoming transformation.

“I think turning some place that was essentially a killing factory into something that’s life-affirming is wonderful,” Delaware Right To Life President Nicole Collins said.

Bible Found In Church Rubble Hailed As Miracle

In the wake of the devastating explosion that destroyed two buildings in Harlem, the discovery of a Bible is being called a miracle by not only members of the Spanish Christian Church that was destroyed in the blast but firefighters and emergency personnel.

On the third day of their recovery efforts, rescue workers found a waterlogged Bible under the debris of the church.  The Bible was not singed by fire at all and the water damage was minimal.

Members of the church hailed it as a miracle because the Bible was the one placed on the church’s altar because it was the used for the founding of the church 80 years ago.

The church’s pastor, Rev. Thomas Perez, became so overwhelmed at the sight of the Bible being brought out intact from the rubble that he had to be hospitalized for observation.

Attendees told reporters the Spanish-language Bible belonged to the founding couple of the church.

Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano said the discovery of the Bible means a lot because now the church will have a remnant as they rebuild.

“Miracle” Baby Found In Trash Dumpster

Doctors are calling a “miracle” a maintenance worker’s discovery of a baby in a trash dumpster.

Carlos Michel said that he thought he was hearing the sound of an animal dying in a dumpster at the Reverse at Windmill Lakes apartment complex.  He decided to investigate and discovered a newborn boy, with the umbilical cord still attached, inside a plastic garbage bag.

Michel immediately checked for breath sounds and found the child was still alive.  He placed him inside his heated truck and warmed the boy until he began to react like a normal baby.  He kept him safe until emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Doctors say he saved the child’s life.

Police investigators found a 16-year-old woman in a nearby apartment who admitted bagging up the baby and throwing it in the dumpster.  Police gave no details why the teen abandoned her baby in that manner but said she was taken to a local hospital.

Child Protective Services will care for the baby.  The Harris County District Attorney’s office has not said if they will be filing charges against the mother.
