Syria has stationed missile batteries aimed at Israel in the aftermath of alleged Israeli air strikes in the country, the website of Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV, considered close to the regime of President Bashar Assad, quoted a top Syrian official as saying on Sunday.
The report came as Syrian Information Minister Omran Zoabi said on Sunday that alleged Israeli air strikes against three targets on the outskirts of Damascus “open the door to all possibilities.”

Israeli jets devastated Syrian targets near Damascus on Sunday in a heavy overnight air raid that Western and Israeli officials called a new strike on Iranian missiles bound for Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
As Syria’s two-year-old civil war veered into the potentially atomic arena of Iran’s confrontation with Israel and the West over its nuclear program, people were woken in the Syrian capital by explosions that shook the ground like an earthquake and sent pillars of flame high into the night sky.
“Night turned into day,” one man told Reuters from his home at Hameh, near one of the targets, the Jamraya military base.

United Nations head Ban Ki-moon has said that at least 11,000 peacekeepers will be needed in Mali to ward off threats from Islamic terrorists.
The peacekeepers would be backed up by a second force, lead by African troops, that would concentrate on combat operations against the remaining terrorists hiding in the northern mountains. Nigerian troops have killed 20 members of the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram, according to an army spokesman.
The terrorists had attempted to take over a military barracks in Monguno, in the extreme northern part of the country. In addition to killing 20 of the terrorists, the troops were able to capture weapons and ammunition from the assault force. No military members were apparently wounded in the assault. Attacks on Christians have been on the rise in Indonesia according to a report from Human Rights Watch.
HRW’s report, researched over a year between August 2011 and December 2012, showed that the government has made little attempt to stop Islamic extremists from taking violent action against Christians in the nation. The report states “harassment and intimidation of minority communities by militant Islamist groups has been facilitated by the active or passive involvement of Indonesian government officials and security forces”. Nigerian troops killed 17 terrorists and wounded dozens of others in twin raids on Boko Haram training camps.
The raids in northern Nigeria happened Sunday. One Nigerian soldier died in the assaults.
Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said the camps were “fortified” and were well stocked for an extended siege. The camps contained armories, a drug store, kitchens, water sources and dormitories for the troops. Continue reading →
