Domino’s Pizza Gets Court Injunction Against Obamacare Mandate On Contraception

Domino’s Pizza founder Tom Monaghan has won an injunction from a federal court judge that would block the Obama administration from forcing him to offer contraception through his company’s health care plan.

Monaghan, a Roman Catholic, has repeatedly made public statements that contraception is “gravely immoral” and that employers should not have to provide coverage that goes against their personal religious beliefs.

Domino’s currently offers a healthcare plan to employees that does not provide contraception and abortion services.

This is just the first of several Michigan court cases against the contraception provisions in the healthcare law. The Michigan Catholic Conference is among other Catholic groups suing because the law requires religiously affiliated hospitals, schools and charities to provide contraception coverage in violation of their faith.

No ruling on those cases is expected soon, however, U.S. District Judge Lawrence Zatkoff’s ruling could provide precedent in those other cases.
