A 24-year-old Minnesota man was arrested by federal agents after he was found to be planning a terrorist attack.
Buford Rogers was arrested on Friday on a charge of being a convict in possession of a firearm.
The plot, which included pipe bombs, molotov cocktails and guns, was caught in the planning stages and appeared to be targeting the town of Montevideo, 130 miles west of Minneapolis. FBI spokesmen did not say whether or not Rogers had been working in concert with other terrorists.
“The FBI believed there was a terror attack in the planning stages,” FBI spokesman Kyle Loven told reporters. “We believe there would have been a localized terror attack and that’s why law enforcement moved quickly to execute the search warrant on Friday to arrest Mr. Rogers.”
Rogers had been identified as a member of a local anti-government group.
“together we can fight back they wont take me down with out a fight i hope that you wont go down easy eather,” Rogers had posted on his Facebook page along with several other anti-government postings.
The FBI added that it believed the lives of dozens of local residents were saved because of the arrest. Among the weapons found in the raid as a Romanian AKM assault rifle.
