A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing of a French soldier in Paris over the weekend and officials say he has admitted to the terror attack.
Officials said the man, identified as “Alexandre”, was a recent convert to Islam who sought to kill “a representative of the state” according to Prosecutor Francois Molins.
French anti-terrorist investigators are heading up the investigation. They found the attacker’s DNA on the scene and was able to track the assailant from it. He was found hiding 28 miles away from the capital.
Molins told reporters during a press conference the suspect likely acted on “religious ideology” and that they have video of him conducting a Muslim prayer before his assault on the soldier.
The soldier has been released from the hospital.
