Monsoon Kills At Least 80 in Afghanistan & Pakistan

Luke 21:25,26 NLT “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.”

Torrential rain across Afghanistan and Pakistan has killed at least 80 people and left thousands without homes.

Officials say that 34 were killed in the Sarobi district 40 miles east of Kabul, Afghanistan. Flooding throughout each of the last three monsoon seasons has devastated the region.

The head of Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority told the AFP news agency said that hundreds of rescue personnel have been sent to the region with emergency supplies.

The Pakistani army had to be dispatched to Karachi after rainwater caused sewage overflows that blocked main roads. Officials say the deaths in Karachi have been attributed to electrocution or collapsing buildings. Most of the city is without power.

Disaster response officials say that more rain is expected over the next few days.
