Anti-Christian Group Sues To Remove Cross Memorial To Veterans

Mark 13:13 “You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

An anti-Christian group is seeking to have a memorial to men killed during World War I removed because it is in the shape of a cross in a public area.

The American Humanist Association sent a letter threatening a lawsuit if the 40-foot tall Bladensburg Cross is not immediately turn down.  The anti-Christianists say that the location of the cross violates the First Amendment of the Constitution.

The 40-foot concrete memorial to 49 Prince George’s County men who were killed in combat during World War I was built by the American Legion in 1925.  The monument was initially owned by the state but then deeded to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in 1960.

Steven Lowe, a man from Washington, claims in the complaint that he was “shocked” when he first saw the cross and gets “upset” every time he has to pass it because he is exposed to something that could possibly be Christian.  Lowe is trying to perpetuate the myth that the existence of the cross in itself is the state promoting Christianity over other religions.

The town administrator said that the cross has historic and patriotic value and they will not remove it because of the anti-Christian group’s efforts.

  1. Hate – Don’t people have better things to do? Grandfathered! America is founded in Bible principles. What a person wants to believe in, is a free decision. That’s what made America, “The land of the free” Everyone decides their destiny. If the Cross offends, take it up with your god!

  2. He is shocked, no more shocked than I was when I went to downtown Macon, Ga and saw a Mosque
in the middle of the town square. What had once been a Christian church at the heart of the beautiful city that God spared from the ravages of the Civil War, is now a building honoring Allah. I was so repulsed by the sight that I left and vowed never to return and I haven’t. Where were the Christians when they let the Muslims purchase a building that once glorified our Savior? If he feels
sickened by the sight of that cross, then we should be as equally sickened by the sight of a church converted to a mosque. People, this is going on all over this nation and it is going to continue with alarming frequency. With each closure the atheists feel empowered to continue their efforts for
which they are achieving great success. Why are we failing to defeat these efforts? Money, plain
and simple. These people have money to spend on good lawyers. We do not have the money to
finance our attorneys. Our churches are getting by from week to week. There is no extra money
to support these people and their causes. We don’t tithe as we should and so our churches are
poor. Until we get serious, we will never be a force to contend with and the opposition knows it.
I have made a lot of changes so far this year. I keep hearing that 2014 is a year of change. Look
into your hearts and find the courage to change your lifestyle and take what is happening more
seriously. We will answer to God one day.

  3. This is just totaly insane. what about our GOD giving right to have that cross there or any other cross through-out our country. that cross represents our faith . ” OUR FAITH.” it is OUR 1st amendment to have that right in what WE believe in. our LORD AND SAVIOUR was nailed to that cross for me and for you, and for those who don’t believe and also who want to destroy that cross or any other cross though-out this earth.. that cross has been there since after ww1 and has remained. it seems that it is now a personal vendetta to want to destroy that cross or anything that has to do with our christian faith. the men who have died fighting for our liberty, for our freedom. those who don’t have a voice! i speak on their behalf as well as others should also. but now it seems that those who want to destroy our faith are using the 1st amendment as a tool in our courts to get what they want! it is in NO WAY promoting anything other than what it truely means to us/believers. ” WE THE PEOPLE.” NEED OUR VOICES HEARD. ”TO BE FIRM BUT STEADFAST.”
