4 in 10 Americans Believe We Are In The End Times

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 KJV “…the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”

A survey taken as part of a Barna Group OmniPoll this summer shows that 41 percent of American adults believe we are in the end times.

The percentage is higher among certain Christian groups according to a press release. 77 percent of evangelical Christians and more than half of all Protestants agree the world is “currently living” in the end times.

“Even I was surprised by the findings,” James Fitzgerald of “The WatchWord Bible” video series, said in a statement. “I thought the numbers could possibly be as low as 10 percent for the overall population and maybe 30 percent for Christians in general, or less. I had no way to know before the survey. But the response of the overall population was higher than what I expected from Christians, and the Evangelical’s response was nearly twice what I thought.”

Fitzgerald commissioned the study of the end times question.

The poll states 54 percent of blacks and 48 percent of Hispanics believe the world in the end times compared to only 39 percent of whites. Married adults and parents were also more likely to say we are in the end times than the national average.

Floyd Elmore of the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Matthews, North Carolina, told the Christian Post many events throughout history have been interpreted by people living in those days as end time events.

“The end times actually began with the first coming of Christ,” Elmore told CP. “So we’ve been in the end times for 2,000 years. The question is, are we at the end of the end times?”

“I will say this: We could be seeing things that prepare us for the last scenario before Christ Jesus come.”
