8 Million Without Power In Sandy’s Wake

Luke 21:25,26 NLT “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.”

Three nuclear power units are shut down amid water pump problems and downed power lines throughout the northeast have left over 8 million people without power in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

The state of New Jersey, where the storm made landfall yesterday afternoon, has nearly 60% of the state without power.

“This will be one for the record books,” John Miksad, senior vice president for Consolidated Edison told reporters. Con Ed reported over 670,000 customers in New York City without power.

Con Edison is also facing the prospect of an extended outage due to damage caused by record storm surges. MIT meteorologists said the storm contained “astoundingly low” barometric pressure driving the higher waves. Flooding from those surges blew out transformers and destroyed multiple Con Ed substations within Manhattan.
