Atheists Sue Government To Remove “In God We Trust”

Mark 13:13 “You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

The anti-Christian Freedom from Religion Foundation is suing the U.S. Treasury Department, saying that having “in God we trust” on currency is offensive to nonreligious American citizens.

The suit was filed February 1st in the Southern District of New York. They are claiming the motto violates the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. They also claim that the currency forces those who do not believe in God to evangelize for monotheism any time they exchange U.S. currency for foreign currency when traveling.

This is the fourth attempt by the group to remove the motto from currency. Previous attempts failed in California, Texas and Wisconsin.

The suit is being brought on behalf of Michael Newdow, the man who sued in 2002 to have “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. The liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the phrase unconstitutional but the case was thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court, saying Newdow had no grounds to bring the suit.
