California Wildfire Growing Too Fast To Map Size

A wildfire raging through the Angeles National Forest is spreading so fast that the U.S. Forest Service is having trouble tracking its size.

“This is extremely old, dry fuel,” U.S. Forest Service Incident Commander Norm Walker stated at a press conference. Over 40 square miles of brush have been confirmed as burned including some that hasn’t burned since 1929.

At least six homes have been destroyed and 15 others damaged. Over 3,000 people were evacuated as the fire continues to move toward towns in the mountains north of Los Angeles.

Over 2,000 firefighters are battling the blaze on four fronts and are being assisted by water-dropping aircraft. The aircraft are even making nighttime flights which are very unusual in battling these kinds of fires. The fire is considered only 20% contained.

The Red Cross has evacuation centers where residents are waiting on word to return to their homes. However, residents of Lake Hughes are not optimistic.

“Driving away, you could see the town burning up,” Patty Robitaille, 61, told the Los Angeles Times. “I don’t think there’s going to be much left.”

  1. DEAR JIM BAKKER,
My wife and I are troubled because we here in the Los Angeles viewing area are no longer getting your informative and prophetical programming and we want to know if you are still on the air on some other channel or timeframe? We already called your 800 number several times asking for help and they never got back with us. Maybe you could put the shows on YouTube so those of us who have missed a show would have the opportunity to catch up on your latest broadcasts.
Thank You for the awesome programs that you Laurie and the team at Morningside have provided your audiences throughout the years. We are still hoping to view more shows to come as soon as we can reconnect with your station programming once again.
    Truly Yours,
    Richard and Elizabeth Arroyo

    • You can find our show in the Los Angeles area on KCAL Channel 9 at 5:30am Monday through Friday. If you do not receive this channel, all of our broadcasts can be found in our Video Archive on our website.
