After a photo of a seven month pregnant woman forced to undergo an abortion against her will surfaced on the internet, China has apologized to the woman and taken action against the officials involved in the assault.
Chinese law prohibits abortions beyond six months.
Local officials apologized to Feng Jainmei and said that the three government employees responsible for carrying out the forced abortion have been suspended. These same officials had initially claimed that Ms. Feng agreed to the abortion procedure because she could not pay the fine for having a second child in violation of the country’s one-child laws.
When photos of the process emerged that confirmed the stories she had been taken to the hospital by force and was restrained for the procedure, officials changed their story to say they would be investigating the situation. China has long denied that “family planning officials” in the country are using abortion as a way to enforce their one-child policies.
Activists have been stating situations like this are not uncommon in China but the internet has made containing these incidents a challenge for the government.

The ONE CHILD POLICY is destroying China.
