Matthew 24:7 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
Cyclone Mahasen, roaring into the Bay of Bengal, is bearing down on Bangladesh and Burma.
Authorities in Bangladesh has raised the alert level to 7 on a 10 point scale for low-lying areas and are strongly urging people to evacuate the area. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in coastal areas in Thursday.
The United Nations has issued an alert warning that over 8 million people could be at risk from the storm.
In Burma, tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims living in camps in low-lying areas after fleeing ethnic violence last year have been resistant to move.
“I lost everything,” Hia Maung told the BBC. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I’ll stay here. If I die, I want to die here.”
Maung lost his mother and two daughters in the violence.
In 2008, a cyclone in the same region crushed coastal villages and killed over 100,000 people.
