Egyptian Interior Minister Survives Assassination Attempt

Luke 21:9-10: [Jesus said] "When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom."

Egypt’s interior minister survived an assassination attempt early Thursday.

A convoy carrying Mohammed Ibrahim was struck by a car bomb just after 10:30 a.m. local time near Ibrahim’s home in Nasr City. Several of the minister’s protective detail was wounded in the assault.

Ibrahim appeared on state TV hours later to condemn the “cowardly assassination bid.” He said that it appeared a large explosive device was detonated by remote control.

“[The bomb] destroyed four of the vehicles of my protection team,” Ibrahim said. “Many shops in the area [are] badly affected along with a vehicle of civilians and a small child who had a leg amputated.”

Ibrahim is in charge of the police forces that have carried out a sweep against members of the Muslim Brotherhood in the wake of that group’s violent protests and terror attacks on Christians in the country. Nasr City is a stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood.

An interior ministry statement said “we are back to the terrorism of the 1980s.”
