Eurozone Unemployment Hits Another High

Revelation 6:5,6 NCV When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse, and its rider held a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard something that sounded like a voice coming from the middle of the four living creatures. The voice said, "A quart of wheat for a day's pay, and three quarts of barley for a day's pay, and do not damage the olive oil and wine!"

Unemployment in the Eurozone has risen to 18.2 million after releasing economic data for August. The rate of unemployment remained the same after the rate for July was revised upward at 11.4%, however there was an increase of 34,000 out of work in the month.

The highest unemployment rate for an individual nation was Spain where one out of four eligible workers are unemployed. Austria had a rate of 4.5%. The rate in Germany, the Eurozone’s most stable economy, was 5.5%.

The rate of youth unemployment in the Eurozone hit 22.8% including a record high of 52.9% in Spain. The European Commission asked governments and businesses in member nations to work to avoid the “disaster of a lost generation.” Greece, which is not considered part of the Eurozone but a member of the Euro, also has more than half their young workforce out of work.

The report also showed a concern about child poverty in nations with struggling economies. A fifth of families are at risk of poverty in Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal where child benefits are inadequate to meet the needs of families who have lost as much as 15% of their income in the world recession.
