Flooding in Indonesia Kills Four

Matthew 24:7 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Heavy flooding in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta has killed at least four people and left thousands driven from their homes.

Jakarta’s governor issued a state of emergency Thursday.

Heavy rain over the last few days has flooded streets in the city’s central business district causing traffic gridlock throughout the city as people escape the rising waters. Over 20,000 people have abandoned their homes with that number likely to rise as the rain continues to fall in the region.

Local television reported water as high at 6 ½ feet deep throughout parts of the city.

An urban planning expert told the BBC the drainage system for Jakarta is “the same as it was in the Dutch colonial era” and not built to handle the runoff from a major city.

The presidential palace has been flooded with a foot of water, however the President has not yet left the grounds.
