Food Banks Struggling to Keep Up with Demand

Revelation 6:6 NAS And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine."

Food banks across the country are facing an increase in families in need, forcing some charities to reduce the amount of food that can be given to each family.

Feeding America, America’s biggest food bank network, says that they will give away around 4 billion pounds of food this year, more than double the amount they provided to people in need a decade ago.

“We get lines of people every day, starting at 6:30 in the morning,” said Sheila Moore, who oversees food distribution at The Storehouse, Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest food pantry.

Economists say the increased demand is surprising because of the increase in employment figures but many of the people who found jobs are only working part-time or for low wages, and are unable to feed their families with the costs of housing.  Many others who have struggled to find jobs have stopped looking for work.

“I know what people go through,” Peggy Bragg, 56, of Des Moines said. “You have to choose between food and bills.”  Bragg has been out of work for months.

A Fort Smith, Arkansas food bank does monthly food giveaways at a local park and draws around 1,000 families.

“When people are willing to stand in 100 degree weather for hours, that tells you something,” said Ken Kupchick, the food bank’s marketing director.

  1. Now is an awesome time for us to pray and ask God to to multiply the food that is at the food banks ,just like Jesus prayed to our Heavenly Father to multiply the bread and fish that the boy brought . Also the tv and radio stations can communicate where people can bring food to help people . I choose to believe that we can accomplish what God has called us to do here in America . I pray for us to humble ourselves and seek God for His instructions on what each one of us needs to do. If God has to rain down manna He will do that . He has brought our family through a bad car wreck and I personally had my house burnt down and lived in different cars and on sofas and in tents etc. . Situations may not be what we would like in life but God is faithful and will keep us alive to accomplish His will for His glory . We have authority over the devil ! . I stood on that pile of rubble back in the late 90’s and commanded the devil to pay back. Seven times what he had stolen from me. My wife and I live in a house that was built in 1955 and its paid for . It needs repairs and we continue to trust God for the needed finances to repair it . The most important thing I know I is to keep my spiritual house growing stronger ,cause I know I need it strong to endure in these last days on earth irregardless of how much more time that I will be on earth . Love ❤ joy and peace to everyone today in whatever you are going through.

  2. We agree with you Patricia, we need to pray, “ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN” no shortage in heaven. God is in control of everything. We must trust in Him for His ways are perfect. And never stop praying for our country and Israel too. Everyone needs to read, “THE MYSTERY OF THE SHEMITAH” by Rabbi Jonathan Cahn. We are expecting revival in this country and it starts with each and every one of us.

  3. Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed be Your name.
    Your kingdom come.
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our debts,
    As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13
    God will do it!
