French foreign minister Laurent Fabius has said that laboratory tests have confirmed use of the nerve agent Sarin in the Syrian Civil War.
The White House again said that more proof was needed because the French scientists did not indicate where the gas was used or who used it. The U.N. stated earlier that “reasonable grounds” have been established for claiming the Syrian government has used chemical weapons.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon described the incidents listed in a UN inquiry into the Syrian conflict as “sickening and staggering”. The report said that the children of rebels have been taken hostage, forced to watch torture sessions and even take part in beheadings.
At least 80,000 people have died in the uprising according to the UN.
The Syrian government denounced the UN’s report as “lies”.
