Saeed Abedini, the American pastor jailed in Iran for being a Christian, has been inflicted with new beatings in Evin prison that have severely impacted his physical condition.
Abedini’s wife told Fox News that the beatings have left him with internal bleeding. The bleeding complication is on top of other injuries from repeated beatings at the hands of his Iranian captors.
Abedini has been sentenced to eight years in prison for being a Christian.
Last week Iranian authorities claimed they were taking Abedini to a hospital for treatment of his many injuries but returned him to the prison without his receiving any medical treatment. Prison officials now say it could be two more months before Abedini will receive medical care.
Abedini has told family members that cellmates connected to the Iranian intelligence police are threatening to kill him in his sleep to make it look like an accident.
The state department has not taken formal steps to free this American citizen imprisoned for being a Christian.
