Abortion proponents have seized upon the death of a 31-year-old woman after a miscarriage to bully Irish legislators into expanding abortion.

The government announced today it will bow to the wishes of those activists and put laws in place to legislate for abortion where “the mother’s life is at risk.”

This will overturn the law in Ireland that a woman and her unborn child have equal status to life under the law.

Bishops throughout Ireland have issued statements condemning the action.

“If what is being proposed were to become law, the careful balance between the equal right to life of a mother and her unborn child in current law and medical practice in Ireland would be fundamentally changed,” Cardinal Sean Brady and three others said in a joint statement. “It would pave the way for the direct and intentional killing of unborn children. This can never be morally justified in any circumstances.”

“I know that most people have personal views on this matter. However, the government is committed to ensuring that the safety of pregnant women in Ireland is maintained and strengthened,” said Ireland’s health minister James Reilly.
