A gas facility in Algeria has been attacked and overrun by Islamic terrorists who killed a British man and have taken other foreign workers hostage.
French, British, Norwegian, Japanese and American citizens are part of the hostages being held by the apparently al-Qaeda related group. An al-Qaeda spokesman claiming to represent the group said the terror organization planned the attack.
Reports from the area have varied regarding the demands of the group but two reliable sources say the group first asked for the release of 100 Islamic terrorists being held in Algerian prisons, and second, the removal of French troops from Mali.
The terrorists have been holding the hostages in a wing of the plant’s living quarters and are surrounded by security forces and military according to Algeria’s interior minister.
Islamic terror groups in the region have pledged increased attacks in the wake of France’s intervention fighting the Islamist in Mali.
