The World Health Organization says the deadly MERS-CoV virus has spread to Italy.
Two women and one man have been confirmed as suffering from Middle East Respiratory Virus. The 45-year-old male victim reportedly had traveled to Jordan and could be the source of the virus’ spread to Italy.
30 of the 53 known victims of the virus have died.
The French health agency said the female victims, ages 42 and 2, are close contacts of the male victim.
The World Health Organization’s general director called the virus “a threat to the entire world”.
So far, all confirmed cases have some contact to the Middle East. While health officials initially said the virus was not transmitted between people, it has now been scientifically proven to spread through close human contact.
