Mississippi Governor Signs Bill Restricting Abortion Providers

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed into a law a bill that requires any physician who wants to perform an abortion in the state to be an OB/GYN and have admitting privileges at an area hospital. The governor had previously stated that he wanted to make Mississippi “abortion free.”

“I believe that all human life is precious, and as governor, I will work to ensure that the lives of the born and unborn are protected in Mississippi,” Gov. Bryant said in a statement on his website. The Governor also stated the bill protects patient safety by requiring physicians to have access to a hospital in the event of complications.

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves has stated the bill should basically close Mississippi’s only abortion clinic.

Mississippi is the eighth state to require providers to have hospital privileges but the first to require they be an OB/GYN.

A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman called the bill a “backdoor ban on abortion” and that it “puts in place requirements that intentionally try to make it impossible for physicians to provide abortion services.”

Over 2,700 babies died as a result of abortion in Mississippi in 2008.

  1. Mississippi is going to receive a special blessing from Father God for having the Courage to stand up and proclaim No More! Where are the other Men of Courage willing to RISE up and take back what the enemy has stolen from us? If we Christians won’t be held accountable for what we did and didn’t do will on this earth, I do mean to tell you, YOU WILL!

  2. Praise God! If all our elected officials felt that way we might stand a chance! Where have all our Christian leaders gone? Please God…send us more! Imagine that 2,700 babies might not be murdered in Mississippi this year! AMEN Governor Reeves – God Bless You!

  3. I wish God would raise up more men like the Gov. of Mississippi. And place more Governors like him accross America.
