Islamists connected to the Muslim Brotherhood are calling for protests across Egypt because of the military’s removing the group from power.
The Islamists have formed a new group, the National Coalition in Support of Legitimacy. They say they want people to “take to the streets and mobilize peacefully” and show the military that people want Islamists to run the country.
The Muslim Brotherhood is reeling after being removed from power and most of their leadership taken into house arrest by troops.
“We are being headhunted all over the country,” Muslim Brotherhood Spokesman Gehad el-Haddad said Thursday according to the Guardian newspaper. Egyptian prosecutors say arrest warrants have been issued for over 300 Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
The Brotherhood say their leadership has been beneficial to the country, however, crime has spiked, the economy is worse than before the overthrow of former leader Hosni Mubarak and religious minorities have been experiencing violent persecution.
Islamists across the middle east were shaken by the news Morsi had been removed.
“[It is] the end of political Islam,” Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told a state-run newspaper.
The concern comes over the fact the overthrow was called for by the people.
“This is the first time in the history of the Brotherhood that it is the people and not the regime that are acting against the movement,” said Ibrahim al-Hudaibi, a former Muslim Brotherhood leader.
Praise God! The Muslim Brotherhood Islamists are persecuting Christian sects. When will we ALL learn to “Love One another”. Egypt is better off without their leadership. Pray for ALL people involved. Pray for God’s Mercy. Pray that our country will turn back to God and that we ask for HIs forgiveness.
