A car bomb exploded outside a market in the Khyber tribal area of Pakistan killing at least 17 people and wounding more than 70.
Among the dead are many women and children. The explosion was in proximity of the tribal administration.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing however it came on the heels of a battle between Pakistani Taliban and government forces. The 15-hour clash between the government troops and terrorists resulted in at least 10 terrorists being killed.
The blast was surprisingly large for a terrorist bombing in the region destroying multiple vehicles and damaging many buildings. Witnesses reported seeing bodies strewn all over the market area.
The death toll is expected to rise as hospital reports place many of the wounded in critical condition.
