Editor’s Note: Throughout the scriptures, God has made it clear that shedding innocent blood is murder, and no murderer will enter heaven. In addition to the death of the unborn baby, abortion also substantially harms the women and many times, families, husbands, boyfriends and a whole sphere of relationships connected to and surrounding each abortion. Often, lifelong guilt and other social, relational, spiritual and even physical problems follow the murder of innocent babes in the womb. Pastor Jim Bakker believes that this issue, abortion, may be the single most significant issue that brings God’s judgment on this nation more than any other.
After 18 years of court challenges and political wrangling, a law requiring parental notification for abortions by girls 17 and under is going to go into effect. The Illinois Supreme Court rejected an ACLU appeal against the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995 which has already been upheld by a federal court.
“We find that, while a minor clearly has an expectation of privacy in her medical information, which includes the fact of her pregnancy, the intrusion on the minor’s privacy occasioned by the Act is not unreasonable,” Justice Anne Burke wrote for the majority. The vote was unanimous and bipartisan.
Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society said the suspension of the law while surrounding states required the notification resulted in many underage girls from other states coming to Illinois for abortions.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois CEO Carol Brite expressed disappointment but made a vow.
“Planned Parenthood of Illinois is committed to doing everything we can to make this new process as easy as possible for teens,” Brite told the Chicago Sun-Times. She went on to say requiring an underage girl to inform her parents of an abortion puts her “health and safety” at risk.
