Sydney, Australia set another temperature record on Friday reaching 115 degrees as a massive heat wave continues to feed bushfires across the continent. Some regions outside the city reported temperatures higher than Sydney.
One man died from being caught by a bushfire fed by dried vegetation due to the drought and heat wave. State police found the man’s body inside his burned out vehicle. They speculate he was trying to flee the flames.
The town of Licola has been cut off due to a 110,000 acre fire that has engulfed the only access road to the community. Rescue personnel say that all but 10 residents of the city have been evacuated.
The heat is also responsible for damage to the city’s urban railway lines delaying many of the trains. Passengers have been warned to carry water with them should their trains malfunction and stop in a place they cannot exit the car.
