Rescue Workers Finally Reaching China Quake Victims

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Rescue teams have finally reached remote parts of China’s Sichuan province after the massive Saturday earthquake that has been estimated to have killed over 200.

Chinese state media say 207 are dead or missing and that the 6.6 magnitude earthquake has injured over 11,500. More than 1,300 aftershocks have rocked the region since the main quake struck around 8 a.m. local time Saturday.

The routes to the remote areas are damaged and many villages could only be reached on foot by rescue teams. Rescuers have had to destroy boulders with dynamite that were blocking roads and traffic congestion has delayed much needed rescue supplies and equipment.

Towns closest to the quake epicenter have been reported to be “in ruins”.

The BBC reported that many of the injured are still inside triage centers set up outside Ya’an’s main hospital.

The hardest hit villages are the hillside villages where farmers grow rice, vegetables and corn on terraced plots. Many of those farming plots were destroyed.
