South African police have announced the arrests of six men in connection with a child pornography investigation.
The six men are believed to have connections in the U.S, Canada, the U.K. And multiple European nations. Police say among the six are a school headmaster and two teachers.
The Times newspaper reported the children were shown suffering “extreme forms of violence”.
“The initial charge was possession, but we suspect they’re involved in manufacturing, import and export as well as mass-distribution,” police spokesman Solomon Makgale told the press. “The indications are there. They had cameras. They had these external hard drives.”
Police say raids on 15 properties yielded 672 DVDs, 22 memory sticks, eight laptops, 25 books and 39 external hard drives containing violent child pornography.
