Syrian state TV announced that President Bashar al-Assad had activated Palestinian groups to attack Israel.
Media linked to the terrorist group Hezbollah, however, stated that only “popular committees” had been formed by Lebanon and Syria in response to Israel’s attacks in Syria and that those committees are “ready to fight Israel.”
Israel’s Golan Heights were hit with two mortars Monday evening but the attack was called “spillover” from the Syrian civil war and not an assault on Israel. However, the Golan Heights was one of the targets specifically named by President Assad to enemies of Israel as a target.
The Syrian military has deployed missile batteries aimed at Israel which they claim are only defensive and used only “in the event Israel attacks again.” Both surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles have been deployed by the Syrian government.
