One day after Pakistan celebrated the first full term by a government in the country’s history, Islamic terrorists have killed at least four people in an attack on a court complex in Peshawar.
At least 29 have been injured in the assault by a homicide bomber.
Government officials say the attack could have been worse if not for security forces who discovered two bombers and was able to kill one before he detonated his device. Taliban related forces have often attacked courts in Peshawar. A similar attack on the same court in 2009 killed 19 people.
Police would not comment on how the bombers were able to enter the high security zone surrounding the court and jail. In addition to the judicial complex, the area houses the army’s Corps Commander, the city’s main prison and the only five-star hotel in the region.
“This may be an attempt to disrupt the coming elections,” information minister Mian Ifitkhar Hussain told the press.
