Texas City’s Mayor Declares the “Year of the Bible”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

A Texas city’s mayor is drawing fire after he declared 2014 the “Year of the Bible” in his city.

Tom Hayden, the mayor of Flower Mound, Texas, made the declaration at last month’s city council meeting. Hayden told reporters that he had been considering the declaration for two years because he wants his community to connect through the Bible.

“The morality that helped build our country is based on the values that are found in the Bible,” Hayden told Fox News. “And as we look at problems, maybe we’re getting away from those values. And in my little small way, I want to encourage people to get back into those values.”

Hayden hopes to encourage residents to join together in reading the Bible in its entirety in 2014.

While some residents are critical of the Mayor’s move, it is not without precedent. President Ronald Reagan made a similar declaration in 1983.

  1. God Bless this Mayor and his town. Can you imagine the change in this world if all the mayors, governers and national leaders did this? Our president and Washington DC should follow this good example. Ah well, Gods’ will be done.
    Amen

  2. May our Lord and Savior Bless You beyond measure Mayor Hayden. I’m sure all Christians will have you in their prayers as well as myself. Thank God I had a mother who taught us kids about Jesus she also took us to church not send us like a lot of people do. Mayor Hayden plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself and your family everyday before going out the door of your home, stand on the promise that God has given us as his children in his Holy Word. God Bless you as you go forward.

  3. Finally ! LORD bless Mayor Hayden and those who stand with him, and LORD willing may the Federal Govenment and other States be blessed with this ‘wisdom’ and ‘fortitude’ to follow? No matter though ! what comes to mind is : our God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is IN CONTROL… knowing We , in Jesus Christ, must stand, pray and speak together as One ; Faithfully trusting & always remembering HIS will be done.

    In Christ,
    Rose

    • It starts with the planting of a small seed watered by prayer which we all know works and is heard. Next we send our angles, yes your angles you have them you may not know or have not used them, they’re waiting to go forward and help in ministering and comforting the word spoken so send them through the highway and the byways it has begun and will be well watered. I just say to the enemy get behind me my prayers and this brave act from this Texas City who’s Mayor has declared, I believe before Jesus amen and amen.

  4. God bless Mayor Hayden! At last, someone besides Pastor Jim has the guts to stand up for the Christians. People ask, “Why isn’t God helping us?” Why should he? We have thrown him out. If there is no God, why are non Christians trying so hard to get rid of something they think doesn’t exist? I find it hard to believe anyone can’t see that we, and everything on this earth, was designed, not a dust ball that got a brain. It makes me also believe that they do know there is a God. They just want to be defiant and don’t want to follow the rules that lead to a better life for all and to salvation. These are basic rules to live by to have peace on earth, but man is arrogant.
