“Thank You Lord. Thank You For Calming That Cable, God.”

Over 13 million people tuned into the Discovery Channel on Sunday night to see Nik Wallenda cross the Grand Canyon. It was the highest rated live event in the history of the Discovery Channel and the fourth highest ratings for prime time ever.

Viewers also heard Wallenda praising the Lord and thanking Him for his protection for almost 23 minutes as he set a world record for his tightrope walk.

In addition to Nik’s constant prayer while walking the wire, viewers also heard Wallenda speaking candidly about his Christian faith and how Jesus is the center of everything that he does in life. Discovery also showed Wallenda and his family praying with Pastor Joel Osteen before beginning the stunt.

About 13 minutes into walk, winds began to gust about 30 miles an hour putting Nik into a precarious situation. As he felt the cable begin to calm down under his feet, Wallenda burst out with “Thank you, Lord! Thank you for calming that cable, God.”

“It was unbelievable,” Wallenda told reporters after stepping from the wire and kissing the ground. “It was everything I wanted it to be. It was extremely emotional. I got to the other end and started crying.”
