Six US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb while on a mission with other NATO forces. The incident comes after 14 civilians were killed in Taliban attacks on Sunday.
The civilians were also killed by roadside bombs that were aimed to cause maximum civilian causalities. The first bomb hit a car and then the second did not explode until a tracker arrived to rescue the wounded from the initial attack.
The Taliban also last week murdered a woman they accused of adultery. A video that made its way to Reuters news service showed the woman sitting on the ground and then being shot point blank nine times by a member of the Taliban.
The woman had reportedly been a point of contention between two members of Taliban leadership who were fighting over the “rights” to claim her.
NATO commander Gen. John Allen condemned the incident.
“This wasn’t justice,” Allen said. “This was murder. An atrocity of unspeakable cruelty.”
