Brain Eating Amoeba Found In Louisiana Parish Water Supply
A deadly amoeba that killed a 4-year-old boy last month was found in the water supply of a Louisiana parish where the boy had been visiting.
The CDC has confirmed that Naegleria fowleri was found in four different locations of the St. Bernard Parish water system. Officials say the water is safe to drink but can be a risk for infection should the water go up a person’s nose. The amoeba enters the brain through the nose. Continue reading

The Centers for Disease Control is trying to find the source of an outbreak of Cyclospora that has sickened hundreds of people, mostly in the Midwest.
The mystery stems from the fact the parasite is not common in the United States but rather found in tropical locations like Latin America. The parasite also isn’t spread from person to person, so there has to be a contaminated food or water source. Continue reading
H1N1 Outbreak In Peru
Peruvian officials are showing concern about an outbreak of the H1N1 “swine flu” that has killed at least five people in the impoverished country.
The Ministry of Health confirmed the number of identified cases has jumped from 46 to 73. They also confirmed the third death was a 38-year-old police officer who died within 48 hours of admission to St. Joseph’s hospital. Continue reading
