Bombing Campaign Kills 25 In Iraq

A bombing campaign carried out through a series of car and truck bombs roared through multiple towns and villages in northern Iraq with at least 25 confirmed dead.

The towns are in an area of the country in dispute between the Iraqi government and the Kurdish minority that lives in the region. The Kurds govern a region in the north that is considered autonomous. Continue reading

Iraq Sees Deadliest Month Since August 2010

Over 325 people died in Iraq during the month of July marking the biggest monthly death toll in almost two years. Over 80 were police and soldiers with the remaining 241 civilians. Most were killed by al-Qaeda insurgents.

In addition to the deaths, almost 700 people were wounded in the attacks including 480 civilians. This is the highest monthly injury total in two years as well. Continue reading

Car Bombings Kill 19 In Iraq

A pair of car bombings in Baghdad has killed 19 people. The blasts happened in the middle of the afternoon rush hour. The first bomb exploded outside a restaurant and the second a few miles away at a passport office.

Insurgents connected to al-Qaeda have been behind the overwhelming majority of the violence and have left 240 people dead this month. The current assault is part of an ongoing campaign of bombings that ramped up with a massive attack on July 23rd that killed 107.

More than 50 people were injured in today’s attacks.

The government confirmed a suicide bomber carried out the first attack while TV news channel al-Sharqiya said that both attacks were suicide bombings.

 

Terrorists Kill Over 107 In Iraq

More terrorist bombings and shootings have left over 107 confirmed dead in Iraq on Thursday and medical officials say it’s likely the final death toll will be higher.

Most of the dead are Iraqi Security Forces and they appear to have been the targets of the assaults. At least 41 people were killed in the biggest assault on a Sunni neighborhood north of Baghdad. At least 19 Iraqi towns and cities were hit in the coordinated attacks. Continue reading

Series of Bombings Kill 25 In Iraq

A truck bombing in the Iraqi city of Diwaniya has killed at least 25 people and wounded 40 more on a day where bomb attacks spread throughout the country.

The bombing appeared to be aimed at Shia Muslims who were gathering at a market near a mosque for a pilgrimage to Karbala. The Shia community is celebrating the anniversary of the birth of a revered Imam.

Police have shut down all entrances to the city in an attempt to quell more violence. Continue reading
