Thirteen people were killed and over 100 wounded when terrorists struck a market in the middle of Baghdad.
The first of two bombs exploded while civilian shoppers were purchasing their morning produce. The suburb of the bombing, al-Husseiniya, is largely a residential area for Shia Muslims.
A second bomb exploded minutes later targeting Iraqi security forces rushing to reach the scene.
Over 130 people have been killed by terrorist attacks in Baghdad during the month of June.
Militant Islamists issued a statement claiming responsibility for the murder of 50 Christians in bomb attacks in Nigeria.
Boko Haram claimed the attacks were in retribution for Christians “destroying mosques” and turning others into “beer parlors and prostitution joints.”

The Muslim Brotherhood, recently removed from power as the result of a Supreme Court ruling that overturned the election that placed them in power, is stating that any return of power to those connected to the previous regime will create “dangerous days.”

Kenya’s prime minister is asking the United States and European Union to send troops for a “final onslaught” against a seaport seen as the main stronghold of Islamist militant group al-Shabab.

French President Francois Hollande stated that Mali could become a home for Islamic terrorist groups and become a major threat to the entire region. His comments came during meetings with Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou. Issoufou shared that he had information Malian rebels are being trained by Pakistani and Afghani jihadists.
Issoufou said West African countries would approach the UN Security Council to provide assistance with military operations against the Islamist affiliated group. A Muslim soldier was convicted Thursday on six charges related to a terror plot to kill American troops at a Texas restaurant.
Jurors deliberated just over an hour before finding Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo guilty of charges including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. He faces up to life in prison when sentenced in July. Continue reading →
Islamist fighters killed five people in Somalia an attacks on government forces.
Al Shabab has retreated from view but the Islamic group has continued it’s attacks on government forces. The group placed bombs under a tree just north of the city and lobbed a grenade into a market area in Bakara.
The Islamists control most of the country. The government and African Union troops control the capital city of Mogadishu.
Leaders of Islamic Jihad and Hamas are advocating a campaign of kidnapping to free terrorists jailed in Israel.
Khaled Al-Batsh, senior member of Islamic Jihad, told a crowd in the Gaza Strip they needed to take Israeli prisoners in an attempt to gain release from prison of terrorists connected to their organization.
“I say to all armed factions, the way to free the prisoners is through swaps…an arrest for an arrest and freedom for freedom. This is the way,” Al-Batsh told the crowd according to the Jerusalem Post. Continue reading →
