The Israeli Counter Terrorism Bureau has released a report showing that al-Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists groups are planning a major focus on Israeli and Jewish targets over the next few weeks.
The report listed dozens of nations where the CTB was “concrete” proof of a terrorist threat. Israeli citizens were urged to immediately leave nations Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria and Lebanon among others. A travel restriction was put in place to other nations such as Libya, Tunisia and Sudan.
The report said that businessmen and ex-government officials would be targeted for kidnapping and assassination. The anniversary of al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attack on the U.S. is seen as a potential flashpoint for terrorist activity as is approaching Jewish holidays.
Also, a ban on travel to the Sinai peninsula has been put into place during a season where many Israelis like to vacation at Red Sea resorts in the Sinai. The government says because of the unrest in Egypt travel is prohibited due to “information on the intention to carry out further attacks.”
The warning was unusually wide in that it included locations in Asia and southern Africa. The Bureau said that all Israelis worldwide need to be vigilant, avoid meetings in strange locations and routinely change their travel routes.
