“Little” Lori is Married!

This past week, my second oldest daughter, Lori Ann, married a wonderful young man in a beautiful ceremony at the Tabernacle.  I must admit that watching her marry the man of her dreams brought a torrent of emotions for me.  Lori is beautiful – she always has been.

From the moment I saw her being born to this special moment, she has always had a glow about her.  Not just on the outside, but inside as well.

As I stood at the Tabernacle and watched her coming down the aisle on Jim’s arm, my mind was flooded with memories.

I drifted back to that occasion, December 6, 1990, the day I witnessed her birth.

The day before, Lloyd Zeigler (my mentor) had interrupted one of my classes.

“Margie’s in labor,” he said. “She called and asked for you.”

I immediately left for the hospital, and I sat with Margie all that day and through the night; she was having a horrible time of it. The next morning, the doctors finally decided to do a C-section. Her previous children had all been delivered vaginally, and Margie had never had any kind of surgery before. She wanted me in the operating room with her.

“Do you think you can handle it?” the doctor asked me.

“I think so,” I replied. “I’ve been through childbirth classes, and I’ve assisted with several deliveries. I want to do this.” I had been present at the births of three children—Nicole (or Nikki Bee as we called her), Bobbi’s daughter; my niece Amber, Mark’s daughter; and the child of my close friends Christy and John— but I had never done anything like this. I wasn’t worried, though, because I had discovered that a calming presence always came over me when a baby was being born, and it seemed quite natural to be in the delivery room helping.

Previously I’d held the baby as it came out of the mother’s womb. I had cut the umbilical cord. I knew I could do this, even though a C-section would be a lot different.

Margie was scared by this new—and traumatic—experience. Right before they put her out, she motioned to me, and I leaned over the gurney.

“Jesus is here with me,” Margie said. “He told me to just go ahead and go to sleep because he would stay with me.”

“That’s right,” I told her. “And I’ll be here too.”

Scrubbed and gowned in hospital greens, I stood by Margie’s side and watched the doctor cut open her abdomen. It was extraordinary, looking down and seeing a person inside of another person, and I was overwhelmed as the doctor reached in and brought out a baby girl in his hands. C-section babies are beautiful. Their heads are perfectly shaped because they haven’t gone through the trauma of the birth canal. This tiny little girl with a full head of black hair yelped and gulped, filling her lungs for the first time outside her mother’s womb.

As I helped cut the umbilical cord, I was awestruck.

The anesthesiologist brought Margie around quickly, and the doctor presented her with a brand-new daughter.

“What do you want to name her?” he asked.

Margie didn’t hesitate. “Lori.”

“No! You can’t do that,” I said. We had never even discussed it.

“Yes,” she said. “I want to name her Lori. I don’t ever want to forget what you’ve done for me and my family.”

Little Lori—or Little Luvins; I was Big Luvins—was seven now, and I’d been there for every milestone in her life—every birthday, every holiday. Maricela, Margie’s next oldest girl, had tattled on Lori the last time I’d seen them. “Auntie Lori, Little Luvins says bad words.” It was true, unfortunately; my namesake could already cuss like a sailor.

Lori Bakker in “More Than I Could Ever Ask”

Little did I know that very soon, I would be married to Jim Bakker and both of these wonderful girls would be our daughters to raise and love.

A few years after Lori was born (we now call her “Little Lori”), the circumstances of life led us to a place where Jim and I could adopt this beautiful child.  She was and is my namesake, and she is beautiful, inside and out.

“Little Lori” is now 21 years old.  Not only is she an amazing human being, she is gifted in many areas.  She has done a wonderful job producing our television show in the past, and today she is studying and preparing for a career in management and fashion design.

I can truly say that raising “Little Lori” was one of the greatest joys of my life.  Though not without its own distinctive challenges, the privilege of being trusted to raise this remarkable child and now, married young woman, was sacred to me.

God, in His infinite grace and mercy, restored to me the privilege of being a Mother to this wonderful girl…. along with 4 other amazing children!  That makes a total of 5 children God has given to Jim and I to parent.

Perhaps some may believe that we intentionally adopted 5 children to replace the 5 children I had aborted in my days of rebellion, but I assure you that is not the case.  No, dear friends, these children were given at different times and under different circumstances.  Each one is a unique blessing and each one has a testimony belonging only to them.

Even if I had planned it, God planned it better!  Little did I know what God would do with the beautiful child that was born that day I accompanied Margie to the hospital!

Angelic Visitations

Our friend, Rick Joyner, was with us recently and we had a wonderful time recalling the supernatural visitations of the Lord’s angels that we have all experienced.  Angelic visitations are biblical and should not be considered unusual.  In fact, angelic visitations should be commonplace among those who belong to the Lord.

Angels are messengers and ministering spirits.

LUKE 22:42-43
42 …”Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.

There are protective angels as well that will keep God’s people from harm.

PSALM 91:1-6,11-12
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; his truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Often an angel will appear in a dream with an instruction or communication of some sort.

I remember when we were visiting Moravian Falls, N.C., where Rick’s main church is located and I had a vivid visitation from an angel of the Lord.  When I awoke, I was so excited and I wanted to tell Jim all about it but he said, “no, I’ll tell you about it.  You were talking all night long in your sleep!”

In this particular visitation, the angel showed me a group of young people with their hands raised in worship and sometimes performing human videos in worship… and it was in the most beautiful place.  It was only later, when the framing for the tabernacle was going up, that I realized that THIS is the place I was shown in my dream.  The angel was telling me that many young people will worship God in that tabernacle and it will be pleasing to Him.

In the last days, the Lord promised to pour out His spirit on all flesh – the young and the old, male and female.  Part of that spiritual outpouring will be to have our spiritual eyes opened to see supernatural beings.  Rick said we’re going to need that supernatural guidance from the Lord’s angels in Times that are coming.  In fact, our very lives may depend on it!

I believe that, and I pray that God will send His angels to guide and encourage His people in the Last Days.

The Lord recently spoke these three things to me:

(1) Be prepared for the storms, natural and supernatural

(2) Weather the storms

(3) Clean up after the storms

I know in my heart that we will need help from angelic forces to be able to withstand the storms that are coming.  I want my heart and spirit prepared to receive from the Lord’s messengers.

Woe is Me (Pt. 9)

I have hundreds, if not thousands, of sermons in my files that I have accumulated over the course of my life.  Just last July, we celebrated my 50th year in ministry.  Over the course of 50 years, those sermons in my files represent countless hours of study and prayer and what is called “labor” in the Word.

I can say without hesitation, that I did get some of my sermons from others or copy them. We all did back then.  That’s how the prosperity message grew and spread.  In these last years I have gotten them by getting alone with God, study and prayer. READ MORE

When People Get Hungry

This may be the most important blog I’ve ever written.  It’s been weighing heavy on my heart recently about why people should store food and water.  It’s more than just about not going hungry, which pulls on the heartstrings.  None of us want our families to go hungry.  Most of us would do just about anything to keep our loved ones alive – to keep them from starving to death in a famine.  Wouldn’t we?

But what are you willing to do to keep them from taking the “mark” and entering an Antichrist system which will eventually mean the loss of not only their lives, but their souls as well? …because that’s what it will come down to.

Are we thinking that in this country, we are going to be exempt from Matthew 24 – or that the Four Horses won’t gallop in our own backyard?  How is it that we’ve been lulled to sleep and reassured by our Laodicean leaders?

The Times that are coming are not just about lack of food.  The Times that are coming are going to be like none other ever before, when everything you need to survive is not available unless you are in the ‘system’, i.e. you have received the Antichrist’s mark.

Food, medications and medical care, housing, compensations, etc. – all of what we know as our current way of living could be used to force us to become involved in an Antichrist system unless we are prepared – that is, as prepared as we can possibly be.

There are going to be many methods by which the Antichrist will force his mark upon people.  There is no Christian that I know who wants this mark, but will you take it if it means your family will have food?  Will those you love be forced to take it to feed or shelter their families and care for their medical needs?

When someone you love says to you, “I don’t know what else to do – I guess I will have to take the mark in order to feed my family,”  wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could tell them “you don’t have to do that, I have food for you!”

We do what we do because we believe with all our hearts that there are Times of Trouble coming – we will be here on this earth for at least part of that trouble – and if we are not prepared, some will succumb to those troubles and do whatever they have to do to survive including taking the Antichrist’s mark.

Let me be clear that this ‘mark’ is not well defined yet, and we are not attempting to define it.  We are simply saying that you and your loved ones should not be forced into anything that doesn’t seem right to you – and the way to keep from it, is to be prepared.

Jim and I teach preparation and living healthy because  that means you may be able help yourself and others to withstand a famine or some natural disaster (or combination of natural disasters) without becoming dependent on others, i.e. having to sign up with an Antichrist system.

That’s wisdom – I don’t care how you slice it.

Woe is Me (Pt. 8)

Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit.

There’s an abundance of rhetoric in today’s world.  It comes at us through many different voices on our televisions, computers, and other electronic media.  We hear rhetoric of all kinds from the media and the politicians of our day, especially since we are approaching another election year.  A lot of it sounds like they make it up as they go along, speaking things they don’t really believe or mean, in order to win favor with the voters and to be elected. When Someone Believes in You

I was a little apprehensive when I knocked on the Master’s Commission door at Phoenix First Assembly.  After all, this was a program for young people, college-aged at the most.  I was then 33 years old and much older than any of those currently in the program.

But, I knew I had a call on my life.  And I knew that in order to fulfill that call,  I needed discipling.  I wanted so much to be involved in ministry, but I didn’t know how to do it.  I wanted someone to see my potential and to recognize something in me worth developing.  I wanted someone to believe in me enough to invest in me.  I had a DREAM.

Who could teach me?  Would they teach me?  Or would they just send me on my way with a tsk tsk tsk?

We had the best of the best right there at Phoenix First with Pastor Lloyd Zeigler and Master’s Commission.  But, was it too late for me?

My mind raced and my heart pounded as I anticipated what I would say and what the answer would be on the other side of that door.  I took a deep breath, said a quick prayer, and knocked.

Have you ever noticed how someone will respond to words that build them up?  You can literally see them physically respond with a straightened back and a head held high.  Words of life will change a person’s very demeanor.

After my talk with Pastor Lloyd Zeigler that day, I knew there was a future for me in ministry and that I would be fully prepared through the Master’s Commission program.  But even more important, I knew that someone I looked up to, someone I respected, someone that was a leader, believed in ME. I felt myself walking more upright, head held high.

The rest is history!  I spent ten years in that program at Phoenix First.

Don’t ever underestimate the power of your support for someone who needs it.  There are young people all around you that need you to speak a word of encouragement, recognize a potential, and care enough about their future to invest in them.  Paul had a Timothy.  Elijah had an Elisha.  Naomi had a Ruth.  Who do you have?

If ever there was a time to sow into the lives of others, it’s now.

There is simply nothing greater that can happen in your life (after salvation) than for someone to believe in you!

Woe is Me (Pt. 7)

Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

“Sowing and Reaping”, “The Widow’s Mite”, “30, 60 and 100 fold return”, “The Cheerful Giver”, “Don’t Eat Your Seed” and even tithing taught in some forms, are just some of the topics that have been twisted and manipulated to extract more and more money from trusting congregants.  READ MORE

The Concept of Eternity

I know I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but this is one time I don’t mind sounding like a broken record.  One day, this life will be over.  Whether we go to meet Jesus, or He comes to meet us in the glorious rapture, this life, as we know it, will be over.  Then, we will live forever somewhere.  We will live forever because we are made in the image of our Father God, who is Spirit.  And so are we  a spirit that lives in a physical body  and possesses a soul (mind, will, emotions).  Though the physical body will perish, we will have a resurrected one!

We are eternal beings, and we will live forever.  Doesn’t that sound absolutely astonishing?  In the natural realm, we see life as being born, living 70 or 80 years, and dying (end of story).  But that’s not the end of the story!  The story goes on forever.

But we are created with our own free will – to make a decision in this life – of where we will spend eternity.  Yet, many put the emphasis on this life only and get trapped by its many alluring pleasures, or should I say the pursuit of its pleasures.

Oh how foolish we are!  And how great was the plan of our enemy, satan, to make everything in this life so enticing and so all-consuming!  He tried the same thing with Jesus, our Redeemer.  “Look over here, Jesus… I’ll give you everything you see if you just worship me”…to which Jesus replied “get behind me, satan!”  Would to God that we could do the same when satan comes with his temptations to entice us to focus on this life only.

The Bible says that if it was this life only in which we had hope, we would be miserable.  But God knew that, and that’s why he made a way for us to have everlasting life through Jesus.

Today is the day of salvation!  Today is the day you can make that decision to give your life, your very short life, here on this earth to God so that you can have eternal life with Him in heaven.

Pray this prayer with me:

“God, I know that I have sinned against you and I am deserving of punishment. But Jesus took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I turn from my sinful life now and with your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness – and for the gift of eternal life in Heaven! Amen!”

Woe is Me (Pt. 6)

Woe to the Shepherds!

One of the most scathing rebukes found anywhere in the Bible is in Ezekiel 34.  It is a rebuke to the shepherds, or in today’s culture, the pastors.  The Prophet Ezekiel was not the least concerned with sparing anyone’s ‘feelings’ when he gave his politically incorrect rebuke in the 34th chapter.  He was concerned with saying what the Lord instructed him to say.  He didn’t water it down, and he didn’t consider how it might put him in social jeopardy.  He was not afraid of the shepherds, but he did have a healthy fear of God, something the modern Church seems to lack. Forgiveness 101

Forgiveness is a hefty topic and there is a great deal written about it and a plethora of different opinions.  Whatever a person has a mind to do, they will probably find enough documentation, pro and con, to do it.  If someone wants to hang on to unforgiveness, they will find a way to support their intention.  And vice-versa.  If one has a heart to forgive, they will find a way to do it, even when it seems impossible.

I’m often amazed when I hear other Christians talk about forgiveness as if it is an option.  That’s not what God’s Word says!  Forgiveness is a foundational, fundamental instruction in Christianity.

Forgiveness is about humility.  It’s about knowing that all have sinned and come short of God’s glory.

Forgiveness is about mercy.   It’s about knowing that you, yourself, are a sinner and that had God not had mercy on you, you would be headed for an eternity in hell.

Forgiveness is about the law of love.  God so loved the world (YOU!) that He gave His Only Begotten Son!  Why?  So that you could be forgiven.

It’s about knowing that if you do not forgive, your Father in Heaven will not forgive you.  Matthew 6:14-15 says, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

You see, if you’re asking the question “do I HAVE TO forgive” this person?” then your heart isn’t where it should be in the first place – because out of the heart, the mouth speaks.  (Luke 6:25)  When your heart is right, even when things may seem very difficult, you will want to do as Jesus did when He said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!”

Forgiveness is not however, acknowledging that what the offender did was right or that you accept what they did.  But it is giving up the pursuit of retribution.

I remember when I first read “I Was Wrong,”  the book Jim wrote when he got out of prison.  I was stunned at the level of forgiveness that Jim had exhibited towards his persecutors.  He completely and thoroughly forgave every single act of malice, every reviling word, and every betrayal.  I didn’t know how in the world he could do it.

But you see, Jim knew what the Word said and he set his heart in agreement with it.  When you purpose in your heart (your spirit) to do something; your soul will follow (your mind, your will, and your emotions).

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

I need my trespasses forgiven, don’t you?  I need all the grace, mercy and love that I can get – so I have to be willing to give it!  That’s why I will purpose in my heart to forgive – and trust my Lord to make that a reality in my words and in my behaviors.  When I meet Jesus on the other side, I want my hands clean and my heart pure.

Amen?
