Eurozone Unemployment: Another Record High

Revelation 6:5,6 NCV When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse, and its rider held a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard something that sounded like a voice coming from the middle of the four living creatures. The voice said, "A quart of wheat for a day's pay, and three quarts of barley for a day's pay, and do not damage the olive oil and wine!"

Another month, another record high for eurozone unemployment.

The unemployment rate for the eurozone rose to 11.9% in January, a rise of .1% from December’s previous record high.

Greece still holds the highest overall rate of unemployment in the eurozone with 27%. However, that was barely ahead of Spain’s 26.2% rate. Unemployment for those under 25 in both countries is well over 50%. Portugal ranked third overall with 17.6%, leaping ahead of Italy into the top 3.

The unemployment rate for the entire European Union (which includes countries that do not use the euro as currency) also rose to a record rate of 10.8%.

In a bright spot of economic news, the inflation rate for the eurozone fell to 1.8%, below analyst expectations of 2%. The European Central Bank is expected to use the drop as a basis to cut interest rates across the eurozone.
